When it comes to online activity, our children are typically the targets and law enforcement is usually a few steps behind. That’s why it’s up to us, as parents, to take the initiative and protect our children.
There are different types of online trends, but here are 3 in particular to discuss with your children:
- Challenges– “It wasn’t too long ago that our social media pages were filled with ice bucket challenges for charity. But today kids are confronted with much more dangerous challenges.”
- Chats– “Another online trend is the proliferation of chat sites. The concept of online chats seems harmless enough. But anonymous sites- which are often not-so-anonymous – can be dangerous.”
- True Confessions– “Psst. Wanna hear a secret? Another online trend is a growing number of sites and apps offering users the opportunity to post confessions, secrets, and regrets. The guise of anonymity makes sharing secrets and confessions with strangers easier than becoming vulnerable with those we know.”
